Head-on Collision with Truck Kills 1, Injures 7
CBS DFW reports on a fatal crash involving an SUV, a small tanker truck, and a pickup truck. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the head-on collision occurred on US 380 and resulted in one fatality, though officials originally thought the accident had killed two people.
When an SUV sideswiped a pickup truck, which was heading west in the left lane, it forced the pickup into the eastbound lanes. The pickup struck a different SUV that was heading eastbound head-on, and a tanker traveling eastbound proceeded to hit the SUV before rolling onto its side.
Responders airlifted at least two people involved in the collision to the hospital. Officials report that one person died in the collision, and seven others sustained injuries.
Truck wrecks are often devastating due to the immense size and weight of these vehicles. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, most of the fatalities in these collisions are occupants in passenger vehicles.

How to Reduce Your Risk of Getting in an 18-Wheeler Wreck
Although some collisions are unavoidable, there are several steps you can take to reduce your risk of getting in a collision with a commercial truck. Perhaps most important, it is essential that you follow the rules of the road and drive predictably.
Truckers and other motorists are going to assume that you will not speed, change lanes without signaling, or break other traffic laws. A crash is much more likely to happen if other drivers cannot anticipate your actions.
You should also use extra caution when traveling near tractor-trailers. Trucks have larger blind spots than passenger cars, and a side-swipe accident with an 18-wheeler can easily be fatal. Remember: If you cannot see the trucker or the truck’s mirrors, then he or she cannot see you.
Cutting off a truck is also hazardous. Trucks require a particularly long distance to stop, so if you change lanes in front of an 18-wheeler and hit your brakes, a rear-end collision is likely to happen. Do not change lanes in front of a truck until you can see both of its headlights in your rear-view mirror.
Unfortunately, you can follow all of these tips and still find yourself in a serious collision. If you sustained injuries in a truck wreck that another driver caused, contact the Cooper Law Firm.
