NSC to Launch National Campaign for Distracted Driving Awareness
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is a national campaign that aims to make the roads safer by educating the public on the dangers of distracted driving. Inattentive motorists are responsible for thousands of traffic fatalities annually, as well as hundreds of thousands of injuries.
Almost every collision involving a distracted driver is 100 percent preventable. If all motorists committed to focusing solely on the road ahead, there would be significantly fewer traffic deaths.
Sadly, despite the potentially fatal consequences of distracted driving, people all over the country do it on a daily basis. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 660,000 motorists are using an electronic device at any given moment during the day.

NSC to Devote the Month of April to Distracted Driving Awareness
Distracted driving warrants a month-long awareness campaign because it is a public health issue that injures more than 1,000 people every day. As long as you rely on road travel, you run the risk of getting in a catastrophic crash with a distracted driver.
Throughout the month of April, the National Safety Council (NSC) will be hosting virtual events to educate people on the dangers of distracted driving. These events include a free webinar titled Engaging Ways to Address Distracted Driving at Work and a social media promotion that aims to get the hashtag #justdrive trending.
In addition to the above events, you can take part in Distracted Driving Awareness Month by printing posters and infographics from the NSC and hanging them in your community. You can also sign a pledge to eliminate distractions when behind the wheel and then share it with everyone who follows you on social media.
Although all of the above activities can reduce the number of inattentive motorists on the roads, the only way to spark lasting societal change is by reaching the next generation of drivers. By setting a good example for your own children and teaching them about the dangers of texting and driving, you can instill a lifetime of safe driving habits. If every parent committed to doing the same, there would be significantly fewer distracted drivers on the roads in just a few years’ time.
In the meantime, though, it remains a serious problem around the country. If you sustained injuries in a collision with a distracted driver, turn to the Cooper Law Firm.
