Collision Between SUV and Tow Truck Kills 1 and Injures 3
According to NBCDFW, a collision involving an SUV and a tow truck resulted in one fatality and seriously injured three others. Deputies from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene of the crash, which occurred on Interstate 35E between Regal Row and Harry Hines Boulevard at around 1:30 a.m. on a Tuesday earlier this month.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the collision, but they arrived at the scene to find the tow truck had careened off the road and stopped in an adjacent creek bed. The driver of the tow truck required hospitalization for unknown injuries.
Responders had to extricate two of the three people who had been riding in the SUV. They transported all three of them to the local hospital for treatment.
Their condition is not yet known; however, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that one of the individuals who was involved in the collision died at the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Why Are Truck Accidents So Often Devastating?
Collisions between passenger vehicles and trucks typically result in significant damage to the cars involved because trucks have so much more mass on their side during the force of impact. When people think of truck accidents, they might think of 18-wheelers overturned on the side of the road, but even fairly small vehicles like tow trucks can cause extensive damage and fatal injuries in a crash with a passenger vehicle.
What Are Some Common Causes of Truck Collisions?
Because of a truck’s sheer size and weight—and the damage it could cause in the event of an accident—commercial drivers have an obligation to exercise more caution than other motorists whenever they are behind the wheel. Sadly, they do not always take this duty of care seriously. Some of the most common causes of truck collisions include:
- Drowsy driving;
- Impairment;
- Inadequate vehicle maintenance;
- Equipment failure;
- Distracted driving;
- Speeding;
- Unbalanced or overloaded cargo; and
- Poor road conditions.
Of course, in some scenarios, truckers are not to blame for the accidents that occur. Passenger vehicle motorists are just as likely to cause truck crashes, and they can do so by:
- Changing lanes abruptly;
- Cutting off a trucker or merging improperly;
- Passing without a sufficient line of sight;
- Failing to provide a wide berth for the truck to turn; and
- Traveling in the trucker’s blind spot.
